What OSS Hero actually means

Three things worth knowing before you apply.

Free while you're eligible

Not a trial. Not a discount. No credit card required — for as long as your project stays eligible, the plan stays free.

A person reviews your application

No scoring algorithm, no bot. Someone reads what you submit and replies — usually within a few business days.

We help you get set up

Beyond approving the application, we'll help you configure monitoring that fits your project, and help you migrate off another status page provider if you're already running one.

Projects we support

Open-source projects currently running on the OSS Hero plan.

Why we run this program

StatusPage.me runs on open-source software — from the database to the libraries in our own stack. This program is us putting some of that back: real monitoring infrastructure for maintainers keeping other people's systems online without a monitoring budget.

We're not running this to collect logos or case studies. It's infrastructure, given to people who need it.

What's included

The core of what you get on OSS Hero.

Uptime monitoring

Multi-region checks every 60 sec.

Public status pages

Up to 3 hosted pages, custom domain included.

Incident & maintenance updates

Publish incidents, scheduled maintenance, and postmortems.

Notifications

discord, telegram, webhook, email, mattermost, rocketchat, ntfy, gotify, matrix alerts for subscribers.

Embeddable widgets, badges, and API access are included too — exact numbers (subscribers, monitors, retention) are in the full plan table below.

Already have a status page?

If you're on Atlassian Statuspage or another provider, you don't have to start from zero. As part of onboarding, we'll help you recreate your components, monitors, and incident setup on StatusPage.me — human-assisted, not an automated import.

Tell us what you're moving from in your application, and we'll walk you through it. This is manual work on our side too, so the earlier we know, the smoother the switch.

What's the catch?

Honestly — not much. Here's what we do and don't ask for:

  • No credit card required
  • No equity, no revenue share
  • No exclusivity — use other tools alongside us
  • No requirement to promote StatusPage.me beyond the standard OSS Hero acknowledgement
  • We won't turn your project into a marketing case study without asking you first

The one real requirement: a visible OSS Hero acknowledgement — either our badge on your site, or a StatusPage.me link on an existing sponsors/supporters page — kept in place for as long as you're on OSS Hero. That's the standard requirement for OSS Hero projects.

Accessibility matters

If your project's community encounters an accessibility barrier on a status page we host, please tell us. We'll investigate it and, where possible, improve StatusPage.me itself so the fix benefits everyone.

Show you're supported

Display the badge on your README, docs, or website — or, if you'd rather, link to us from an existing sponsors/supporters page instead. Either satisfies the acknowledgement requirement.

Already have a sponsors, supporters, partners, contributors, or infrastructure-credits page? A plain-text link to statuspage.me there is enough — no logo required.

Frequently asked questions

OSS Hero includes hosted status pages, multi-region uptime monitoring, incident management, subscriber emails and alert integrations (Slack, Discord and email). You also get embeddable badges, widgets and API access so you can plug StatusPage.me into your existing tooling.

Yes, custom domains are supported on OSS Hero. You can point a subdomain like status.yourproject.org at StatusPage.me with automatic SSL. For very high-traffic projects we may request DNS at your side to manage costs and performance. Learn more on the custom domains page.

No — the badge is one option, not the only one. You can either display the OSS Hero badge on your site, or link to StatusPage.me from an existing public sponsors, supporters, partners, contributors, or infrastructure-credits page. A plain-text link is enough; we don't require our logo. Whichever you pick, keep it in place while you're on OSS Hero. See the acknowledgement guide for details.

Tell us what you're moving from in your application. Once approved, we work with you directly to recreate your components, monitors, and incident-page setup on StatusPage.me. There's no automated import, so plan for a short back-and-forth rather than an instant switch.

That's awesome! If your usage becomes commercial, we'll help you transition to a paid plan that matches your new scale — your status page keeps running.

If you have real users and actively maintain the project, we're interested. If it's just a weekend toy with no adoption yet, this program probably isn't the right fit – we want to focus OSS Hero on projects that other people rely on.

Most applications are reviewed within a few business days. We may reach out if we need more information about your project.

Stop paying for monitoring out of pocket.

If your open-source project keeps other people online, OSS Hero will keep your uptime monitoring, incidents and status page running for free.
