Changing Your Status Page Slug
Your status page slug is the URL identifier used across all your free domains (e.g. acme.statuspage.me). While it’s best to choose a slug you’re happy with from the start, you can request a change if you need one — subject to a brief admin review.
How to Request a Slug Change
- Go to Status Pages and open the status page you want to rename
- Click the Settings tab
- In the Visual section, find the Slug field
- Click Request Slug Change
- Enter the new slug you want and confirm
Once submitted, your request enters a pending state. You’ll see a notice on the settings page while it’s under review.
Slug format requirements
- 3–63 characters long
- Lowercase letters, numbers, and hyphens only
- Cannot start or end with a hyphen
- Must be globally unique (not used by any other status page)
What Happens During Review
All slug change requests are reviewed by the StatusPage.me admin team before being applied. This helps ensure slugs aren’t misused and that the redirect chain remains clean.
You’ll be notified by email once your request is approved or rejected.
If approved
- Your status page immediately moves to the new slug
- Visitors using your old slug are automatically 301 redirected to your new slug — permanently, with no expiry
- Your old slug is blocked from reuse for 30 days to prevent confusion or hijacking
- A confirmation email is sent with your new URL
If rejected
- You’ll receive an email with the reason
- The rejection notice also appears on your settings page
- You’re free to submit a new request with a different slug
Redirect Chain
Every time a slug is renamed, the old slug is recorded and permanently redirects to your current slug. This means the entire rename history works — if your page has been renamed twice, both old slugs will redirect to the latest one.
Example:
| Slug visited | Redirects to |
|---|---|
old-name.statuspage.me | current-name.statuspage.me (301) |
previous-name.statuspage.me | current-name.statuspage.me (301) |
You can see your slug history in the Settings → Visual section under the slug field — it lists all previous slugs and when they were changed.
The 30-Day Reuse Block
After a slug change is approved, your old slug is temporarily blocked from registration for 30 days. This applies even if you try to reclaim it yourself. After 30 days, the block lifts and the slug becomes available again to anyone.
The redirect from the old slug to your current page remains permanently, regardless of the 30-day block.
Can I Have Only One Pending Request?
Yes — each status page can have at most one pending slug change request at a time. If you have a request pending, you’ll see its status on your settings page. If you need to change to a different slug instead, contact support to cancel the existing request first.
