Status Page Settings Guide

Last updated: 2026-08-12

Your status page settings let you customize everything about how your page looks and behaves. Here’s a complete guide to each section.

If you see a Previous Settings Available! banner after a downgrade or re-upgrade, learn how the restore flow works in Status Page Settings Snapshots.

Accessing Settings

  1. Go to Status Pages from the left menu
  2. Click on the status page you want to edit
  3. The settings page opens with a sidebar navigation on the left — click any section to jump straight to it

On desktop you’ll see the section list on the left and the content on the right. On mobile, the section list stacks above the content.

Visual

Controls how your status page looks:

Basic Information

  • Name - The display name shown on your status page
  • Slug - The URL identifier. You can request a slug change after creation — old slugs automatically redirect to the new one.

Branding

  • Logo - Upload your company logo
  • Show logo text - Display your name next to the logo
  • Accent color - Primary color for buttons and highlights
  • Theme - Light or dark mode

Theme and layout

The Theme & layout card replaces the old Page Theme and Layout Mode dropdowns. Click Choose design to open a visual chooser with separate Layouts and Themes tabs.

  • Page Theme - Choose a preset for typography, spacing, card density, and history ticks. Available presets are Default, Canvas, Minimal Edge, High Contrast, Soft Cloud, and Terminal. Canvas keeps the familiar Default styling and overall-status card while using flat component rows.
  • Layout - Choose how components are arranged: Comfort (the classic full-detail layout with card history strips), Compact (one row per component with a condensed 45-day strip), Minimal (status pills only), Spotlight (a centered layout with a customizable masthead), or Large (collapsible accordion groups for manual-component pages).

Each option includes a thumbnail. On desktop and tablet, the chooser renders your real status page in the preview pane. On phones, use Preview to open the selected combination in a new tab.

Only one layout and one theme can be selected at a time. Reset selection returns to the currently published combination. Use this design applies the selection to the settings form but does not publish it; click Save Settings afterward to publish the change.

Layouts that are incompatible with the current page are disabled. For example, Large cannot be selected while the page has monitors attached.

Advanced visual options

  • Embed in your website - Copy a ready-made ?embed=1 URL for iframe embedding. You can also optionally restrict which sites may frame the page by setting Allowed frame origins.
  • Custom CSS - Add your own CSS on top of the selected theme. Your Custom CSS still takes precedence.

If your premium visual settings were previously disabled during a downgrade, you can compare saved values against the current page and restore selected fields. See Status Page Settings Snapshots.

For detailed branding options, see our branding guide. For the full iframe workflow, see Embedding a Full Status Page.

Use the Banner section when you want to place a slim hosted status notice on login pages, dashboards, or customer portals.

You can configure:

  • Enable embeddable banner - Turns the banner on for this status page
  • Visibility mode - Show it always, only for incidents, only for maintenance, for incidents or maintenance, or only when non-operational
  • Manual override - Replace the automatic message with your own label and message
  • Theme and display options - Status dot, icon, compact layout, and the “View status” link

Banner settings are saved per status page.

You can also manage the same banner from Status Pages > Embeds in The Widget Builder.

For setup instructions, embed code, and troubleshooting, see Embeddable Status Banner.

Status Page Banner

Use the Status Page Banner section to show a notice at the top of your public status page. Choose whether it is enabled, select its type and icon, write the message, and optionally set an expiry time.

This is separate from the embeddable banner used on your own website. Changes in this section are saved with the main Save Settings button.

Components

Control page-level component behavior.

  • Manage components - opens the dedicated Components page for adding, editing, grouping, reordering, deleting, or manually setting component status
  • Collapse component groups by default - when enabled, all groups start collapsed on the public page (visitors can still expand them)
  • Notify subscribers when a component status changes - sends subscriber email for manual component status changes, unless an active incident already covers the component update

For component setup instructions, see Managing Components and Groups.

Monitors

Connect your monitors to your status page so uptime data appears automatically.

  • Select which monitors to display
  • Choose how to show uptime history
  • Configure response time display

When a connected monitor detects downtime, it can automatically affect the component status.

If you need some monitors to be visible but not strongly affect your overall status, see: Monitor Impact on Overall Status.

Incidents

Control how incidents appear on your status page:

  • Show incidents on page - Toggle incident visibility
  • Days of history - How many days of past incidents to show
  • Incident display format - Compact or detailed view

For writing clear updates, see the incident creation guide.

If you want faster incident publishing, use incident templates. If you want internal responder instructions attached to incidents, use runbooks.

For the customer-facing side of status page structure, examples, and maintenance patterns, see the University status pages hub.

Notifications Tab

The Notifications tab controls where owner/team alerts are delivered for this status page, plus some per-page notification preferences.

Notification Channels (linked channels)

This section links your global notification channels to a specific status page.

  • Default behavior: If no channels are configured for the status page, the system falls back to email and will notify the status page owner (and team admins) at their account email.
  • Manage Channels: Takes you to the global channel manager at /user/status-pages/notifications where you create/edit channels.
  • Link Channel: Links an existing global channel to this status page and lets you toggle it on/off for this page.

Component notification overrides

If a monitor is attached to a component, notifications can be scoped using per-component overrides:

  • Inherit: Uses the status page’s linked channels.
  • Override: Uses only the channels linked for that component (override-only). This can be empty, which means no notifications are sent for that component.

Notification Preferences

Preferences are saved per status page (via the /user/api/status-pages/notification-preferences endpoint) and stored in status_page_notification_preferences.

Event Types

The UI lets you toggle multiple event types. For owner/team alerts on this status page, these event toggles are enforced:

  • Monitor Down
  • Monitor Recovered
  • Incident Created / Updated / Resolved
  • Maintenance

Other checkboxes shown in the UI may still be persisted, but won’t have any effect unless the system actually generates notifications of that type.

Quiet Hours

When enabled, Quiet Hours suppress non-critical status page notifications during the configured window.

Scope: applies to owner/team alerts for this status page (linked channels + fallback email), including consolidated/batched alert emails and auto-incident emails. It does not affect subscriber broadcasts or account/security emails.

  • Timezone: UTC uses UTC clock time; Local uses the server’s local timezone.
  • If Always send critical alerts is enabled, these critical events still send during quiet hours:
    • Monitor down
    • Incident created / updated / resolved

Rate Limiting

Rate Limiting prevents notification flooding by limiting the maximum number of status page notifications that can be sent within the selected time window.

  • Scope: per status page (applies to linked channels + fallback email for that page)
  • Behavior: once the max is reached, additional notifications are skipped until the window rolls forward

Scope note: this rate limit applies to owner/team alerts for the status page (including batched and auto-incident emails). Subscriber broadcasts and unrelated account emails are not governed by this setting.

For subscriber notifications (public subscriptions), see Managing Subscribers.

Subscribers

The Subscribers tab controls public subscription behavior for your status page.

Use it to:

  • Enable or disable the public Subscribe button
  • Review confirmed subscribers for the page
  • Export or remove subscribers from the list

When subscriptions are enabled, visitors can subscribe by email from the public page. They can also keep the default page-wide scope or narrow delivery to selected service entries from the subscribe modal.

For setup and delivery behavior, see:

Access

Configure how users access your status page:

Plan note: Several access features (private pages, password protection, SSO, IP allowlist, magic links) require a paid plan. If your paid plan ends, these features are automatically disabled but your configurations are preserved. See What Happens When You Downgrade or Cancel.

Historical Uptime Access (Teams)

If your status page is linked to a Team, you can choose which team roles can access Historical Uptime.

  • By default, only Owner and Admin roles can view Historical Uptime.
  • You can allow additional roles from the Access tab.

Learn more in Historical Uptime and Teams.

For privacy-friendly visitor counters and the quick 30-day analytics snapshot on the status pages list, see Status Page View Analytics.

Free Domain Options

Choose from three free subdomain options:

DomainExample URL
statuspage.me (default)your-slug.statuspage.me
sp.fyiyour-slug.sp.fyi
hostedstatus.pageyour-slug.hostedstatus.page

Your status page URL uses the subdomain format: your-slug.yourdomain.com

Primary URL enforcement: The selected free domain becomes the canonical (primary) URL for your status page. Requests to the other two domain variants automatically redirect (HTTP 301) to the selected primary. This prevents duplicate content and consolidates SEO signals to a single URL.

For example, if you select hostedstatus.page:

  • your-slug.statuspage.me → redirects to your-slug.hostedstatus.page
  • your-slug.sp.fyi → redirects to your-slug.hostedstatus.page

Custom Domain

Connect your own domain like status.yourcompany.com. See our Custom Domain guide for setup instructions.

Misc

Additional options for your status page:

  • Public/Private - Make your page public or restrict access to authorised visitors only. See Private Status Pages for a full guide to all access methods (password, IP allowlist, email magic link, and Azure AD).
  • Search engine indexing - Allow or block search engines
  • Maintenance mode - Put entire page in maintenance state

When you change, set, or remove a status-page password, we may send a security alert email to the account owner so you can quickly spot unexpected changes.

Saving Changes

After making changes, click Save Settings at the bottom-right of the content area. This includes settings in the Status Page Banner section.

The embeddable Banner section can also be managed from Status Pages > Embeds, where its dedicated save action applies to that embed configuration.
